Our Team

Neighbors Rise is led by founder Mary Bonney, and assisted with some wonderful volunteers.  Mary also serves as a volunteer with the NOPD Homeless Assistance Unit, which provides a valuable connection to the unhoused community.

A note regarding our social media: While we do have a NeighborsRise instagram account, we do not actively use social media for this program, in an effort to preserve the dignity of those we assist.

After working 9 months at local Covid homeless shelters in 2020, we identified the need for furniture and household goods for people as they were getting housed.  As these residents were placed in permanent housing, they needed support to turn their houses into 'homes'.  The immediate and generous support from our local community was amazing, and that is when "NeighborsRise" was created, as a more formal platform to carry out this mission.

To date, we have donated thousands of pieces of furniture,  homegoods, food and petfood to hundreds of individuals in the New Orleans area, as they are transitioned from unhoused to housed.  

We have partnered with Costco, Rooms to Go, Goodwill, Second Harvest, New Orleans Medical Mission, NOPD, Grace at the Greenlight, Blankets for the Bayou, Arno, LASPCA, Big Easy Animal Rescue and an amazing array of individuals to provide furniture, food, housewares, pet food, clothing and even beds for pets.

Donations are distributed not only to the newly housed, but also to local shelters (people and animals), as we endeavor to aid everyone in need.  Our donation recipients include The Women&Children's Shelter, Big Easy Animal Rescue, Ozanam Inn, Rebuild, St. Jude, Low Barrier Shelter, Office of Homeless Services, FreeStanding Communities and Grace at the Greenlight, in addition to hundreds of individuals in the New Orleans community.
